Advent is a season of preparation for the celebration of Christ's birth, but we must also prepare for Advent itself. Here are some ideas and activities to bear in mind for Advent this year:
- If you have not already done so, make an advent wreath this year.
- Make a point of receiving the Sacrament of Confession. There will be multiple penance services in this area for your added convenience.
- Advent is a penitential season like Lent, as evidenced by the wearing of purple vestments and the fact that we do not sing the Gloria at Mass. Prayerfully consider doing some penitential act this Advent, such as adding an extra devotion or making a sacrifice.
- The joy of Christmas is all the more heightened by the patient waiting during Advent. By observing Advent and not following the secular culture in celebrating Christmas before the actual day, we allow ourselves to more fully experience this joy.
